Mariana Wolfner (Disease)

Mariana Wolfner 02.23.15Goldwin Smith Professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics in the College of Arts and Sciences

Wolfner’s research focuses on understanding the important reproductive processes that occur around the time when a sperm fertilizes an egg at the molecular/gene level, and her lab uses the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, for most of its work. Many of the genes and reproductive/developmental phenomena in flies have counterparts or analogues in other animals, including humans and insect vectors of disease.

Wolfner places a particular emphasis in her work on teaching and mentoring students in classes, in the research lab, and through informal interactions.
