A Gamelan Double Bill

A double bill of gamelan and gamelan-inspired music: the Cornell Gamelan Ensemble presents a sampling of traditional Central Javanese gamelan music, followed by indie rock/gamelan fusion favorites Twin Court.

Tuesday, December 5, 8pm
Lincoln Hall B20
Cornell University

The Cornell Gamelan Ensemble, including students taking MUSIC 2341 Gamelan in Indonesian History and Cultures, will play loud-style pieces characteristic of the royal palaces in the Javanese court cities of Surakarta and Yogyakarta; ketawang Subakastawa, a piece for full gamelan featuring the intricate parts of softer instruments; and two pieces featuring the lively interplay of bonang (gong chime) and kendhang (hand drums).

Twin Court integrates the distinctive timbres of gamelan instruments into their novel indie rock/dream pop sound. They will present an all-new set of original songs, including their first single, “Sage Creek,” streaming now.

Twin Court will also play a show presented by Ithaca Underground on Friday, December 1, at the Sacred Root Kava Lounge & Tea bar.
