Asylum seekers from Central and South America and other parts of the world continue to arrive in New York. Some of these population groups are gaining authorization to work in the U.S. In the fall of 2023, the U.S. government granted Temporary Protected Status to Venezuelan migrants. As a result, many of this group now are authorized to work in the U.S. with a document called an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). An EAD is acceptable for employers as an I-9 List A document establishing both identity and eligibility to work.

New York farm employers are now hiring some of these Venezuelans, and other nationalities, who are eligible to work. New York state established a website where employers can register their interest in finding and hiring asylum seekers. Look for the “Business Inquiries” button to register your business as interested in finding asylum seekers.
