DEA 2020 Intro to Sustainable Design
What is sustainability and how does it apply to the built environment? Through lectures, case studies and field trips, this seminar will explore this complex concept through the lenses of ecology, materials science, technology, economy, health, culture, and community. It will consider all phases of design: from planning through construction and operations to reuse and disassembly. Appropriate for DEA, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, CRP, Engineering, Real Estate, and Hotel School students.
Learning Outcomes
Identify the basic concepts and tenets of sustainable design and understand overlapping environmental, social and economic issues related to sustainability.
Communicate the benefits and challenges to designing sustainably which include strategies, practices, and terms used in green building.
Determine the right questions to ask when assessing designs, materials & processes for sustainable performance
