We are a student-operated, New York State registered, first response emergency medical service. CUEMS provides emergency medical care at the basic life support (BLS) level, free of charge to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the university. Each year, we respond to over 600 calls. Working together with other emergency services from Cornell University and Tompkins County, CUEMS provides a valuable resource to the Ithaca campus and surrounding community.
CUEMS is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as a few staff and faculty members, with around 60 members in total. Membership is open to all members of the Cornell community, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and alumni. The organization is operated by an Executive Board of ten officers, which is currently served entirely by students.
We provide EMS standby event coverage for campus events, which is often mandated by university policy and local fire code. This service is free of charge to all Cornell organizations and departments, relieving the burden of EMS costs in event planning. We also provide training to all members of the Cornell community in CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed. Our alcohol awareness and other educational presentations are also available to the Cornell community.
