Clarence S. Stein Lecture Series
Using concepts from his 2013 book, A Country of Cities: A Manifesto for an Urban America(Metropolis Books, 2013), Vishaan Chakrabarti ’88 will propose a renewed humanist metropolitan agenda for design influenced by the structuralist movement embodied in the work of Team 10, Aldo Van Eyck, and Kevin Lynch, but transformed in response to three central challenges facing cities today: climate change, social inequity, and technological advancement. Chakrabarti will show projects from his New York City studio as exemplars of this new agenda, including his award-winning proposal for Penn Station.
Chakrabarti is a registered architect and founder of the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism, and associate professor of practice at Columbia University.
