Ph.D. candidate Nidhi Subramanyam was selected as one of the twelve Cornell graduate students for the Einaudi-SSRC Dissertation Proposal Development Program, established by the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies. This program offers seminars, workshops and mentoring to doctoral students doing internationally-focused research in the humanities and social sciences. Throughout the spring semester, students will attend five seminars and participate in a three-day workshop to enhance their research skills and plan out their summer schedules in preparation for their dissertation research.
Nidhi Subramanyam is a second year Ph.D. student doing research on the governance of basic services such as water and sanitation in small and medium-sized cities in the global South under the guidance of CRP faculty Neema Kudva. Nidhi returned to Cornell to begin her doctoral studies after receiving her M.R.P. degree in 2014.
Prior to returning to Cornell, Nidhi worked at Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), where she worked with the Climate Change program. She assisted in instituting projects that addressed adaptation programs in cities in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Through this work, Nidhi published papers on the governance of flooding risks in Mumbai and adaptive water management across the global South.
CRP associate professor Neema Kudva will be one of the faculty facilitators for the workshops. Along with Kudva, the workshop will also be co-lead by Raymond Craib, associate professor of history and director of the Latin American Studies Program.
The Einaudi-SSRC DPD Program is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, in part of the University Initiative of the Social Science Research Council.
