Paychex, Inc., is an American company that provides human resources, payroll, and employee benefit services to businesses. Its founder and Rochester, NY native Tom Golisano, has a reported net worth of 6.3B.
Golisano has always been a generous philanthropist, but on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at the Golisano Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship in Brighton, NY, it was an exciting day when Golisano stated he would be giving $360 million to various non-profit organizations across Upstate NY. One category in particular peeked our interest–animal welfare and shelters.
Animal welfare announcement begins around 24:30.

“People ask me why would I do such a thing. First of all, I applied for immortality and they didn’t give it to me,” Golisano joked. “Secondly, I can’t take it with me. But the important thing is there are so many good organizations that provide important services and capabilities to people in our domain here in Upstate New York.”
On behalf of Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Program, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, we would like to say THANK YOU Mr. Golisano, for your generosity towards the mission of animal welfare and helping to continue and advance the work we do in shelter organizations! 🙂
