This past week, the BFA’s escaped to see the fresh sceneries of Northern Italy. We began our journey in Milan with a tour of the extraordinary Milan Cathedral in Piazza del Duomo. The views from the terrace were absolutely incredible. With Milan’s faster pace, we later explored the classical works of Pinacoteca di Brera, the modern works at Museo del Novecento, The Prada Foundation, a Rosa Barba exhibition at Hangar Bicocca, and the Triennale of Milan.
On Saturday morning, we donned our rain jackets and headed to the watery city of Venice for the Venice Biennale. The fabled romanticism of the city was felt all around. It was very inspiring to see the gondolas, bridges, and brightly painted buildings.
We spent the first day in beautiful weather at the Giardini and our second day safe from the rain in the Arsenale. All the works were incredible and varied between the pavilions. Favorites of the group included South Africa, Russia, and Mexico. Highlights from the trip include a visit to the Peggy Guggenheim collection, the David Hockney show at Ca’Pesaro, and my personal favorite, the Scuola di San Rocco.
Later that evening we packed our bags and were joined by the Architects for a sleepy train ride home.
