In the previous post (StratusNet) we presented what make us able to perform video streaming. But what video streaming brings to our project?
The stratus video streaming allows the camera to be view from ground, enables algorithms to run into remote station and can be used to send additional flight information:
- Battery level
- Emergency situations
- Camera calibration parameters
The images are the color and the depth images with 320 x 240 size and are streamed in 30 frames per second with less than 20 milliseconds of latency.

A challenge of any wireless network is its bandwidth and limited range. To overcome this issues we not just performed some well-known algorithms, but also built a custom depth compression, which we call Stratus Depth Compression. The graph below shows comparisons between different approaches evaluated.
