Eye candy

I find myself absolutely mesmerized by this stereo image of an actin filament from Direct visualization of secondary structures of F-actin by electron cryomicroscopy Nature (2010) Advance Online Publication from Keiichi Namba’s lab.

This image is a triumph of instrumentation and technical ability. The data and model are a phenomenal contribution to the field and will spur all kinds of new research.

I’m not good at viewing stereo pictures; I’m looking forward to the day when we have easy access to 3D printers and can just generate a model object to examine from all sides!
