Logical consequence
The mission of the NIH is:
“to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce the burdens of illness and disability.”
In other words, solving the twin challenges of curing disease and health maintenance involves asking (and answering) the question “How does biology work?”.
We can distill this to:
If we want to find solutions to how disease challenges and health management, we first need to figure out how biology works.
Solving problems is a semantic consequence of knowledge acquisition.
