The sustainability and resilience of animal production systems depends upon maintaining animal health and productivity. Digital tools are rapidly becoming available in livestock operations creating major opportunities for transforming animal management. Applying artificial intelligence (AI) to data from attached and non-attached animal sensors, animal performance records, facilities, genomics, and the environment is a rich opportunity for optimizing animal health and production while reducing resource use and environmental impacts. This seminar will provide an overview of recent research advances in using data-analytics and automation for improving the life of the animals and humans that are part of food animal production systems.
Dr. Julio Giordano is Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Cornell University. Dr. Giordano leads the Dairy Cattle Biology and Management Laboratory which focuses on development, implementation, and evaluation of technology for dairy production systems. His research integrates concepts of animal biology, farm management, engineering, and data-analytics for enhancing the reproductive performance, health, and profitability of dairy cattle.
The Cornell Institute for Digital Agriculture (CIDA), a faculty led initiative focused on creating a strong voice in the emerging area of Digital Agriculture (DA), invites Assoc. Professor Giordano to present his research for CIDA’s monthly seminar series.
