Plant pathogens and pests have coevolved with their hosts in endless cycles of light and darkness: day and night.  During this time, they have evolved to use light to direct their growth and development.  We are just beginning to now take some of these coevolved relationships and use them in ways to give a competitive advantage to crops, and thereby suppress disease.  This seminar provides an overview of various systems where the technology is now applied, the machines presently in use, and considers the opportunities in biology and technology for the future.

David M. Gadoury is a senior research associate and epidemiologist in the Plant Pathology and Plant Microbe Biology Section at Cornell AgriTech at Geneva.   His work over the last 35 years can be found embedded within the management programs for major diseases of apple, grapevine, and strawberry worldwide.  He is a Fellow of the American Phytopathological Society (APS), Director of APS Foundation, and host of the APS podcast Plantopia (PlantopiaPodcast.org).

The Cornell Institute for Digital Agriculture (CIDA), a faculty led initiative focused on creating a strong voice in the emerging area of Digital Agriculture (DA), invites Asst. Professor Jiang to present his research for CIDA’s monthly seminar series.
