On September 17th, CCE Schuyler and other local agencies participated in Cayuga Health’s 3rd Annual “Schuyler Family Fit Fest” at the Montour Falls Fireman’s Carnival Grounds. Over 250 people participated in activities focused on fitness, nutrition, and education.
CCE’s booth offered multiple activities covering a variety of our programs. Visitors were greeted with educational activities such as “Growing your Own Pizza” which connected families with the journey of their food from farm to table; “Drop Spot Scavenger Hunt” by Sustainable Montour Falls–a game focused on uncovering the locations of the Montour Falls’ food scrap drop-off bins; and “Rethink Your Drink” by SNAP Ed that asked players to look at a row of beverages and choose the healthiest. This game was accompanied by a display from students in the Odessa and Watkins Glen REACH programs detailing the amount of sugar found within various drinks. Visitors were also offered healthy smoothie and flavored water recipes along with other tip sheets.
In all, it was a lovely day full of kids, activities, and wonderful weather.
