On the evening of February 2nd, Watkins Glen REACH students and their families were entertained by the educational experiments of Bruce McLaren, science educator from the Science and Discovery Center in Corning. Enlisting the help of curious students, McLaren conducted experiments on materials like plastic and the strength of glass and even demonstrated a “fire tornado”.
The science show was part of REACH’s regular Family Night series. Family Nights provide opportunities for students and families to learn together and showcase what students are learning. On this night, 39 family members were treated to experiments that students would be unable to do in an afterschool setting – and should not try at home without a parent present.
The REACH program is open to all students grades 3-8 in the Watkins Glen School District. If you are interested in enrolling your child, forms can be found on the school website.
