Is a Master Forest Owner Volunteer the right person to visit your forest or woods?

Is a Master Forest Owner Volunteer the right person to visit your forest or woods?

Master Forest Owner (MFO) volunteers are woodland owners, like you, trained to help connect you to people and educational resources so you can increase your enjoyment of your woods.  MFO volunteers are not foresters. The support MFO volunteers offer is based on their training through Cornell Cooperative Extension and their experiences as a woodland owner.  If an MFO visit is right for you, request a visit.  An MFO visit is free, with no cost to the landowner. An MFO visit might be right for you if you want to:

  • Understand woodland ecology and biodiversity
  • Consider some ways to care for and improve your woods
  • Discuss options and interests for enjoying your woods
  • Help look for invasive plants, erosion, or other potential concerns
  • Learn about how to plant trees in riparian areas
  • Discuss general considerations about a timber harvest
  • Understand the difference between foresters and loggers
  • Learn more about keeping your woods healthy and resilient
  • Find educational resources on numerous topics available to woodland owners

Someone other than an MFO is best if you:
