Hello! I am Leigh Miller, a rising senior in Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences studying Environment & Sustainability. I designed my own concentration, Collaborative Climate Solutions, to encompass my interest in understanding sustainability from the angles of agriculture, business, climate policy, natural resources management, and community engagement. I am also pursuing a minor in Climate Change. In the future, I would like to work on issues of environmental justice and community resilience.
This summer I am working with CCE Tioga on “Understanding Opportunities and Barriers to Colocation of Solar and Agricultural Land Use in Tioga County.” I will read literature, collaborate with working groups, and interview farmers to inform recommendations for integrating solar power and agriculture in Tioga County. The faculty sponsor is David Kay from the Department of Global Development, my supervisor is Barb Neal from CCE Tioga, and my field mentors are T Hanson from CCE Tioga and Mary Kate MacKenzie from South Central NY Dairy and Field Crops Program. I look forward to learning about Tioga County’s farming industry, making an impact on New York State’s climate progress, and serving the Tioga County community.
