This week I continued to read webpages and articles about the colocation of solar and agricultural land, as well as conversion of agricultural land to single-use solar development. I focused on academic literature this week, reading several research articles to gain a deeper understanding of some of the key topics that fall under the Ag-Solar umbrella. I am able to access all of these resources through an Airtable database that the regional Ag-Solar Working Group has compiled. It was helpful to understand some of the qualitative and quantitative investigation that has already been completed on the topic I am working on this summer to help inform my work. I also met with a fellow student who is assisting with related research about solar leases in New York State, and in talking with her and some of my mentors on this project, I was able to clarify some steps to achieve the informational deliverables I will produce over the course of the summer. Each week, I feel that I am learning a lot about a pertinent and increasingly important land-use and climate issue affecting all New Yorkers now and in the future.
