Our Biggest Obstacle & Looking Fordward

June 27, 2021

We were so excited to get started on the program and were ready to get our next cohort. To prepare and spread the word we created online flyers, sent out emails and even recorded an advertisement for a radio broadcast! We were worried at first because we were not getting any applications and had to push the date from the 18th to the 21st… Eventually we got nine amazing applicants and we were able to continue the program as planned. Getting those applications made me realize how real this program is. We have actual teens who were interested and want to learn more about Anti-Racism and how they can work together and even on their own to make a difference.

We were also able to start planning our first session, Stephanie and I met today and created our lesson plan and materials for the first meeting. It was exciting and enjoyable to create the forms and mini presentations to help spark conversation. Having a second person to brainstorm with is one of the best parts of the planning process because if you are unsure about an idea, they can tell you whether or not it truly works.

I am excited to continue planning and to finally start facilitating the meetings this week.
