This week I visited John Bowne High School to set the third round of traps. Along with the crops, I got to see some of the animals, including a peacock:
Like previous times at this location, one of the pan traps either blew away from the wind or was knocked over, even though I added extra rocks to try to prevent this from happening. Because this has been a repeat problem, I suggested that the location of the trap be moved to a place more hidden to hopefully prevent it from being knocked over for the September round of traps. Despite this difficulty, collecting and counting the traps went smoothly. I noticed while setting the traps that for squash around one of the pan traps, the leaves had turned white and were dying, which I suspected could have been powdery mildew.
The insects we found this month were generally similar to the ones found in previous months, though we did find more tiny wasps and ground beetles than in July.
