I started work this week with an early Monday morning meeting with the newsletter team. I spent last week reformatting and rewriting the old newsletter template, so now I presented my work on the newsletter. I received some feedback about the articles and content that the team wishes to expand on. One of my tasks this week was to follow up with the necessary people in order to get more content for the newsletter.
Overall, I am very excited to see the newsletter published, and I am happy with my work so far. The team is aiming to publish by the end of July, and I think we are on track to meet that deadline. I have learned a lot about graphic design and design choices, which will be helpful in other jobs and internships moving forward due to my contributions to the newsletter project this summer.
I spent Monday and Tuesday working primarily on the newsletter, with some additional meetings with Climate Steward Volunteers in between. I am meeting with volunteers to provide support and resources with their final projects. I also spent these days preparing for the monthly climate stewards meeting which occurred on Wednesday, the 26th. At this meeting, I moderated the Zoom. It was a very interesting talk about alternative climate solutions. The presenter, John Schull, was also on a local radio channel later in the week, and it was a great opportunity to meet and speak with him before that.
On Thursday, I continued meetings with climate steward volunteers, and attended other meetings with the Horticulture team. These meetings are great to get to know the other people in the office who I do not interact with on a daily basis. Aside from work on the newsletter, I also began working on a fundraiser for the climate stewards program. This fundraiser will comprise of an at-home compost kit and a class on how to properly compost with worms. In order to prepare for this fundraiser, I am doing research on the tools we will need to run this short course, the equipment necessary for each kit, and pricing and marketing strategies.
I also spent the later half of the week preparing for the weekly Climate Stewards Class, which are on Saturdays. On Saturday I cohosted the class, and helped facilitate the Zoom meeting. These classes have been another great opportunity to meet volunteers, especially the volunteers from Erie County, since I do not work with them on anything else.
Next week, I am excited to start finalizing the newsletter draft and celebrating the 4th of July. It is crazy to think it has already been five weeks of working here. Time flies!
