This week I met the rest of the CCE Monroe Staff and got started with a few projects that I will continue working on throughout the summer.
On Monday, I was invited to attend a meeting for a new project at the Monroe CCE office which aims to combat food insecurity throughout the city of Rochester and surrounding communities by providing tools and funding to promote food self-sufficiency. I found this very applicable to many aspects of climate justice and sustainable development that are at the heart of the Climate Stewards program. I am excited to hopefully continue working on this project in my time here.
On Tuesday, I began working on the summer newsletter for the Climate Stewards in Monroe County. Throughout the summer, I will be working with Climate Stewards staff and volunteers to gather materials and resources such as articles and photographs that will be displayed in the newsletter. Additionally, I will help with the editing and publishing process of this newsletter. I am excited to build upon my climate change communication skills throughout this process.
The rest of the week was spent preparing for the Monroe CCE plant sale fundraiser, which was on Saturday. This event raised money for the Master Gardener team and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Association. At the event, I tabled for the Climate Stewards Program and handed out brochures and other educational materials that related to the Climate Stewards Program, as well as other local environmental issues. For example, I answered questions and handed out information about how to deal with mosquitoes and spotted lanternflies, which have a big presence in the area.
