Hello! This week, I was back at the office, where there was a lot going on. On Monday, I helped with survey data coding, converting responses into numerical values, and entering them into the combined document. I also assisted in arranging materials and preparing for the upcoming classes.
This week, I supported two programs: 2GenPSitWorks and the Strengthening Families Program. Both follow a similar framework, with parents and children learning in separate rooms before coming together for a family session to practice the skills they’ve learned.
In the 2-Generation curriculum, we focused on the skill of shared decision-making. Originally designed to help parents engage in open dialogue with their children to reach compromises, the curriculum was adapted for peer-to-peer interactions in the kids’ session. The goal was to equip children with better decision-making skills when interacting with their peers.
The Strengthening Families Program also uses a 2-Generation approach. This week, we discussed the students’ knowledge of drugs and alcohol and explored strategies to resist peer pressure. Participating in this program has deepened my understanding of the mutual needs of children and adults in each other’s lives. Despite the heavy content, it was heartwarming to see families bond during the children’s choice activity.
To wrap up the week, I began drafting a press release to highlight the current programs at Cornell Cooperative Extension.
