Field Trips and Focus Groups
During this past week, due to weather constraints, we continued to recruit various properties for the study until Wednesday. Using maps designed to highlight locations that matched our sampling criteria, Sierra and I created a list of potential sites and distributed door hangers to those that seemed viable.
On Thursday, the other interns at Shackleton and I took a field trip to the Little Moose Field Station near Old Forge in the southwestern Adirondacks. It was a great experience touring the station and hearing about their ongoing projects.
On Friday morning, we sat in on another focus group hosted by our coworker Joellen at Beaver Lake Nature Center. It was fascinating to hear the different and similar thoughts that emerged compared to the previous focus group. We made sure to address any misconceptions about ticks at the end and connected participants with the appropriate resources to learn more. I was even able to collaborate with a friend from Cornell who came from Ithaca to help!
