Weeks 3 & 4: The Fair and The Office

Hello, everyone!

Week 3 and 4’s blog posts are coming a bit late…

After a weekend away with friends, I headed to Ithaca on Monday the 15th to conduct a visit at the Oxley Equestrian Center. Oxley houses horses for the Cornell Equestrian and Polo teams. The facility requested further assessments in the Nutrition, Human Safety, and Pasture Management categories.

Here are some examples of proper barn equipment at Oxley.

Hay net for Cornell Polo horses.
Example of an agricultural use fan. Closed motors are important to prevent barn fires.
Vinyl fencing and hot wire.

After Monday, I worked in and out of the office while attending the Hemlock Fair. The poster board I created the week before was displayed at the Livingston County Cornell Cooperative Extension tent. I answered questions people had about the program at the tent.

This Monday, I was supposed to have another visit near Rochester, but I had a nail in my tire and was unable to go on the visit. Ken was able to complete the visit, and I have been working on the feedback form in the meantime.

Overall, I have been working on wrapping up my internship. Today, I created a post-survey to send to farms enrolled in the program to look for areas of improvement. I am planning on using the responses from the surveys for my internship posterboard presentation next month.

Until the next and final week,

Molly
