This week began with a meeting with Bill, one of the volunteers in the Climate Stewards Program who has focused on the newsletter. We met to talk about his goals and visions for the newsletter. We planned out the layout and deadlines for collecting articles and media to publish in the newsletter. He wrote an article about a trip to a recycling plant that his cohort attended during the Climate Stewards classes. I also plan to contribute an article, which I will write this week.
We are hoping to publish by the end of the summer, so one of my tasks this week and throughout the summer is working to edit and finalize the other details for the newsletter.
I also attended a meeting with the food insecurity program. I will be creating a one-pager with information about the program in order to raise awareness about the capacity of this program to support food pantries and community gardens in underserved communities in Monroe County.
This week I also started my intake meetings with the Climate Steward Volunteers. I am meeting with them to learn about their projects and provide support with these projects as needed. I met with one of the volunteers who is working at the Rochester Museum of Science and is making an educational plant and food garden. He also hopes to plant fruit trees on the grounds. The purpose of this is to become a community garden and also teach younger generations about growing food and sustainable agricultural practices.
