Blog Assignment Sheet for Politics and Policy

You must write two blog posts on aspects of your research topic. They will both be 500-700 words and will be published on the Cornell in Washington weblog. Your posts will be published during two different weeks, but both will be before spring break. We will assign the deadlines in class on January 31. You will send the post to your tutor, who will grade it, and pass it on to me for publication.

The specific requirements:

1. Write a post on the political context of your particular topic. How is it related to policy? What institutions are responsible for that particular policy? Who are the critical actors driving that policy? Is there a current and accepted policy or is it contested? You should include enough links to back up your information for someone reading.

2. Investigate and report on some aspect of your topic and its policy context. Interview one of the critical actors from the first post. Go to a hearing on it and report back. Go to a panel discussion or a talk or something similar and report back on it. Come up with something similar (clear it with your tutor first!) The goal is to be an investigative journalist for a moment and report fresh information on your topic.
