Strawberries: Flower petals are greenish, and fruit never ripen

Green-petal MLO is caused by a mycoplasma-like organism (MLO) transmitted by leafhoppers from clover. It causes leaves to curl upwards, the petals to remain green, while fruit do not ripen. Cultivars vary in their susceptibility to this disease.

Strawberry plant with green, lumpy looking fruit. Swollen, green achenes and cupped sepals give fruit an unrecognizable appearance.

Strawberries should not be planted in close proximity to clover. In areas where there is risk of infection care must be taken in selecting planting sites and cultivars.
