ASAP Congressional Visit – Trip to Washington D.C.

February 5, 2021.

Apply here for our annual trip to Washington D.C. We will interact virtually with Congressional offices on Capitol Hill and hear about science-policy initiatives lawmakers are working on. We will also have a chance to meet with federal agencies and NGOs, including the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship.

If you are looking for a way to gain hands-on experience in science policy, this is your chance! You will be directly involved in the decision-making process, get to network with science policy peers and professionals, and hone your communication skills.

2020 Election Initiative, a science policy work session in collaboration with the National Science Policy Network (NSPN)

Tuesday September 24th  5:00-8:00, Olin Library Room 104. Come collaborate on exciting science policy issues to help inform the 2020 US elections! We’ll break up into groups and compile meta-reviews, which gather reports and other information on a scientific topic for the easy reference of a candidate or layperson. Proposed topics include climate change/clean energy, gene editing, regulating emerging technology, and disinformation in science. No experience required!

Science Policy Happy Hour

Join us for an ASAP social, 7 p.m. September 10th at Bickering Twins. Come meet other students and post docs interested in science policy and learn more about our group and upcoming events. We’ll supply the chips and guac!

 

Global Biotechnology Policies and the Role of Scientists; a talk with Pablo Orozco, Legal Affair Fellow at the Alliance for Science.

Thursday September 12th  10:30-11:30, Mann 100. Come learn about the Alliance, a non-profit housed right here at Cornell that is doing incredible work supporting the use of scientific research to solve pressing issues in food security, agriculture and climate change. Pablo will discuss global policies impacting the use of genetically modified organisms and other important biotechnology, and how scientists can be involved in shaping this landscape. Coffee and tea will be served, and there will be time reserved for attendees to speak with Pablo after the presentation.
