In response to an increasing number of submissions on topics related to applied physics, the arXiv Scientific Advisory Board has approved the addition of a new subject area for the field. This new “Applied Physics” subject area is for papers that would have been too much on the applied side to fit into related arXiv areas such as optics and material science. It also is covers new areas such as device physics and energy science.

- Applications of physics to new technology, including: electronic devices; optics; photonics; microwaves; spintronics; advanced materials; metamaterials; nanotechnology; and energy sciences.
