Aquaculture Organizations

There are a variety of organizations that are associated with the aquaculture industry. They include industry associations, research entities, and non-profits. Below is a list of these organizations with links to their websites. It starts with New York specific ones and gets broader as the list goes on. This list will be updated as we become aware of new organizations.

New York

Gino Macchio Foundation
The Gino Macchio foundation provides support to the sustainability efforts of the oyster industry, and to the workers of Long Island aquaculture.

Lazy Point Farms
Lazy Point Farms is a nonprofit that aims to enhance and expand the seaweed industry in New York State.

Long Island Oyster Growers Association
LIOGA
serves the Long Island Oyster Industry as a lobbying force, community hub, and educational source for consumers.

Regional

Center for Tropical and Subtropical Aquaculture
The CTSA is one of five Regional Aquaculture Centers. Region served: American Samoa, Commonwealth of the North Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Hawai’i, Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands. 

East Coast Shellfish Growers Association
The ECSGA is an non-governmental lobbying organization that serves to inform policy makers of the needs of shellfish industry members.

Northeastern Regional Aquaculture Center
The NRAC is one of five Regional Aquaculture Centers that support aquaculture research and science, and acts as an intermediary between policymakers, community members, and scientists. States served: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington D.C., West Virginia.

North Central Regional Aquaculture Center
The NCRAC is one of five Regional Aquaculture Centers. Region served: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Southern Regional Aquaculture Center
The SRAC is one of five Regional Aquaculture Centers. Region served: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Virginia.

Western Regional Aquaculture Center
The WRAC is one of five Regional Aquaculture Centers. Region served: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

National

Federal Subcommittee on Aquaculture
The SCA is an interagency coordinating committee that enhances efficiency of federal aquaculture work across government institutions.

National Aquaculture Association
The NAA is a lobbying force that focuses on the interests of U.S. aquaculture on a national level.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
The NOAA Office of Aquaculture is a government agency that supports aquaculture along with other marine fields.

Today’s Farmed Fish
Today’s Farmed Fish is an organization that provides information and education regarding sustainable farmed fish. 

U.S. Aquaculture Society
The U.S. Aquaculture Society serves the educational interests of researchers, students, and industry members.

Global

Aquaculture Engineering Society
The AES aims to support sustainable aquaculture through the development of new science and technology practices.

Global Seafood Alliance
The GSA is an international coalition of seafood stakeholders that aims to support and grow sustainable seafood practices globally.

World Aquaculture Society
WAS is a global collaborative organization that facilitates communication and information exchange regarding aquaculture around the world.
