PETER GABRIEL

From the beginning of his career in the 1970s with the band Genesis to his later endeavors as a solo artist, Peter Gabriel has become one of the most successful and influential players within the world of popular music. He has also been an indefatigable humanitarian leader, with his efforts being recognized by the award of the title of Man of Peace by the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates in 2006. In the early 2000s, Peter Gabriel visited Sue Savage-Rumbaugh’s ape language laboratory, then located in Georgia, and held sessions of musical improvisation with two “languaged” apes, the female bonobo Panbanisha and the male bonobo Kanzi.

PETER GABRIEL’S TESTIMONY (2019) was collected in 2018 during the Atkinson Forum on Apes and Sustainability held at Cornell University. Laurent Dubreuil conducted the interview and edited it. Peter Gabriel’s testimony will be added soon.
