Ron LaFrance Memorial Leadership Award

Recognizes a Native American undergraduate who displays leadership, persistence and fortitude in achieving academic goals and serving Native American communities. The award honors the memory of Ron LaFrance, Ph.D., a Mohawk leader and Director of the AIP (1981-1993). Ron was a model and an inspiration to the Native American students at Cornell and around the country in their pursuit of higher education.

Awardee: Della Keahna Warrior ’22

Della Keahna Uran is bear clan, White Earth Anishinaabe and Meskwaki. Della is a rising junior in Environment and Sustainability seeking minors in Indigenous Studies and Fashion Studies. Della works hard academically to achieve the best possible grades in addition to being a community oriented activist within NAISAC and the greater Indigenous community.

Awardee: Annabel Young ’21

Annabel Young is Anishinaabe Ojibwe from Gnzoozhekaaning and Ishkonganing Bendige’ing, Crane Clan (ajijaak). Annabel is a junior in the Collge of Arts and Science studying American Studies and English, with minors in American Indian and Indigenous Studies and Inequality Studies. Annabel always did everything she could and more as NAISAC cochair, provided support for students in an official and unofficial capacity, all while doing very well in her academic endeavors. While she was abroad she continued to check in on members of the community and helped spread the word about various endeavors.
