The goal of Harvest Connection is to connect consumers with local producers and their products throughout Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Montgomery, Fulton and Washington counties. Harvest Connection is a website that brings information about Capital Region farms right to consumer fingertips. You can find a farm that sells locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, herbs, Christmas trees, honey, and maple syrup and other products. Capital Region farms have so much to offer throughout the season – from strawberry picking in early summer to apple and pumpkin picking in the fall. We invite you to venture out to visit our farms and meet the folks who work hard to provide you with all these wonderful things!
One of the purposes of Harvest Connection is to provide workshops and other resources to the producers within our community. We would love to hear your ideas! What types of programs we can have that would impact your farm or business?
Workshops that we have had in the past include, but are not limited to Social Media Marketing, How to use your Harvest Connection Farm Page, FAMACHA, and Tick and Pesticide Management.
Our Team is more than happy to offer programs similar to those listed above, but we also want to present new programs based on what you need. Caring for your fresh cut Christmas tree
• Choose a freshly cut tree.
• Get your tree in water within the first 12 hours of bringing it home. If you don’t get your tree in water, make a fresh cut one quarter inch up the trunk with a sharp saw to reopen the tree stem.
• Give your tree 1 quart of fresh water for each inch in diameter of the tree trunk.
• Check the water daily.
• Keep your tree away from sources of heat.
• Don’t add preservatives or drill holes in the base of the tree. This does not help with the uptake of water.
• Decorate your tree with lights that are low heat.
