We are pleased to announce that Rachel Moody has joined the Capital Area Agriculture & Horticulture Program as its Commercial Livestock Educator.
Rachel is a native of Rensselaer County, where she grew up and worked on the family dairy farm. She was heavily involved in 4-H which included showing dairy cattle, dairy goats, and poultry. Rachel is also a former Rensselaer County Dairy Princess.
Rachel completed a Bachelor of Technology degree in Animal Science-Dairy at SUNY Cobleskill, then went on to receive a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Education and Extension from Virginia Tech.
Rachel has spent ten years teaching agriculture. She taught agriscience to middle schoolers in Virginia and then taught high schoolers for eight years at a vocational ag school north of Boston. Rachel has been an FFA advisor and a 4-H volunteer. From 2014 to 2020, Rachel was the Livestock Educator for CCE Orange County and last year she worked for Cornell Quality Milk Production Services doing a research project.
Rachel and her husband Eric reside at her family’s farm in Poestenkill, which they purchased from her parents over a year ago. They have a farm stand and sell various farm products. They also raise livestock. Rachel has a soft spot for draft horses and currently owns a team of Percherons.
Rachel is looking forward to working with the CAAHP team and meeting the farmers in CAAHP’s six county region.
