Upcoming Programs & Opportunities for Producers

A purchasing opportunity while helping those struggling through these challenging times.

CEO for the Greater Capital District, located in Troy, New York has received Nourish NY grant funds.  This is a program that works to address community food needs through purchasing New York produced foods from farms and providing them to those in need.  CEO is seeking farms and businesses who utilize New York farm products to purchase items such as meat, produce, dairy, pasta and other NY grown/made items.  CEO will purchase directly from the farms and work to distribute the items throughout Rensselaer County at no cost to the community.  If you may be interested in learning more, or have a product available for purchase, please call Erin Bradley, Director of Operations at CEO, at (518)272-6012 or ebradley@ceoempowers.org

Excess produce available for pick-up at East Greenbush Hannaford

The Hannaford in East Greenbush is looking for producers interested in picking up excess produce. This produce is leftover trimmings or expired products-things that may be acceptable to feed your livestock. Pick up can be any day of the week (before 4 PM). You will also need to sign a waiver agreeing that you will not eat or resell the products. If interested, please contact the store and ask for Sharon or Bill at 518-477-6483.

*This is the number for the store. When you call, select options: contact a department, then select produce, and  then ask for Sharon or Bill*

Things you may want to consider to determine if this is something that is right for your operation:

-The impact of adding an inconsistent feedstuff to your animals ration (every load will be different, difficult to measure nutritional value).

-Depending on the animals, would this potentially cause off-flavors or deter quality in farm products (meat, eggs or milk)

-Consult your nutritionist if you have one and/or your veterinarian
