Linda: You are a curator, writer and part-time professor of art history, theory, and criticism; as well as New York celebrity! You teach the New York City Professional Practice class, but you like to say it is neither practice, nor professional. As the most eccentric and unpredictable professor, you’ve become synonymous with unique classes, entertaining discussions, and delicious snacks! You’re fashion-forward and extremely humble, although it is difficult to go a day without you being noticed by a curator, artist, or one of your many friends on the street. Your boundless knowledge and experience in the art world in New York City makes your class a fan favorite. We love Linda (and Linda snacks!)
Jane: You are a Brooklyn-based artist whose work spans various media, including sculpture, video, and performance. You teach the New York City Seminar class, meeting students every Friday at a different artists studio around New York, from the West Village in Manhattan, to Dumbo in Brooklyn. The exclusive studio visits are informative and dynamic, always beginning with an in-depth visual presentation by the artist detailing their own history and progress, followed by an open-discussion question-and-answer period, diving deep into complex conceptual and technical ideas. You are calm, classy, poised, and cheerful, and your class is our favorite way to end a busy week!
Beverly: You are a sculptor whose work incorporates painting, drawing, film, photography, and performance. You teach the New York City Studio class – along with being an established, enthusiastic, clever, funny, and friendly artist! Primarily working in sculpture, you confidently lead every studio class with a precise yet open-minded curriculum, flexibly adapting to each student’s personal conceptual and technical ideas. Your critiques are beneficial and valued, and make artists feel more developed as each week goes on. You love devoting classes to particular skills, from ceramics to figure drawing. You have a brand new puppy, Alfie, who has turned you into a dog-mom, and your students beg you to bring him to class!
Masha: You have taught art history, architectural history, and design, and served as a design critic at a variety of universities. You teach the Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Metropolitan Studies class at AAP NYC, which means you provide valuable historic socio-cultural, artistic, and political history to your students. Your class starts off the week strong, and forms a well-rounded perspective for the students in your class. You assign presentations that cover a wide variety of topics, and your calm, classy, and poised mannerisms make Monday classes a fun, stimulating start to the week!
