If you’re using WordPress.com, you’ll have access to the newest version of the software, which is what your dashboard defaults to. This looks slightly different from the black menu, but most of the terms are the same.
Instead of “Users,” the menu item is “People.”
“WP Admin” will take you to the black menu interface.
You can also now choose whether or not you want to edit certain aspects of your WordPress theme using the “Customizer” (shown on the right). This is available in a range of software versions, either through the “Appearance” menu item on the black menu, or by clicking the “Customize” button next to the “Themes” menu, as shown to the left.
What you can customize depends on the theme you have chosen and the extent of customization it allows.
