Back from the Abyss

Hypothetically speaking, if I were to put out a call to arms, could I count on some of you folks to help me stamp out the evil spammers who frequent this blog and populate the comments with links to online gambling and porn sites?

No?

Okay, then. Moving right along.

Welcome to 2005, guys. And please accept my apologies for the long silence in December. I was away for a few days and returned to find a pile of logo related work that rivaled Everest in height and difficulty. Back in October, VP Bruce told us (paraphrased) that once the logo was launched on the 28th, we’d never have to think about it again. I really, really wish I’d gotten that in writing.

Thank you all for your comments on the new design comps we posted. We’re sifting and mulling and revising and things are moving forward toward a hoped-for January 17 launch date. I’m happy to say that at least one new set of campaign images will be incorporated into this launch (more, I think, but my brain is still fruitcake and eggnog addled and precise numbers escape me at the moment). I’ve seen comps for these and they’re lovely.

More importantly, perhaps (to some of you, anyway) is the fact that the infamous football picture will be replaced with a…wait for it…hockey shot. I expect you all to tell me how wonderful it is. Complaints will be summarily dismissed and your names will be added to Santa’s “naughty” list for next year.

Two Announcements

1. For those of you on campus: Expect a re-launch of the Identity Site (with massive signature updates) in a week or so. After that, there is a huge back-log of signature requests to get through (last estimate put it at 150+) and then another major update will be done. We apologize for the delay…none of us were truly prepared for the volume of requests.

2. I am absolutely thrilled to (finally!) share the fact that Will Morris (whom you might remember as the Lead Designer for the cornell.edu project) has joined the Office of Web Communications as Program Manager for cornell.edu. The site, Cornell as a whole, and all of us will benefit from his vision and energy in the coming days and months.

Will officially joins us on January 17, bringing our happy family up to three members. With a little luck, we’ll be adding a fourth (Content Manager for cornell.edu) by the end of the month; effectively doubling us in size just in time for our move to swanky new digs down in Collegetown.

Happy New Year, folks. Great things are afoot for 20005.

Lisa
