Two days until launch.
This is my new mantra. Two days until launch. Two days until launch. Two days until launch.
It’s only Tuesday and, so far, this week has seen:
- The departure of our intrepid leader, Thomas Richardson, who leaves Cornell for warmer climes. The timing is unfortunate, but we’re soldiering on without him.
- Last minute discussions regarding the new Cornell logo. This is to be expected with a project of this scope, but knowing such has not prevented my hair from pre-maturely greying.
- Final updates and changes to the site content. Initially, we were going to have to launch and do an immediate push for a content update, but we’ve managed to squeak most of these changes in under the wire. Whew. I get to go home this weekend.
I also got to wade into the code (see above re: content changes) for the first time, which was both exciting and a little daunting. Until this project started, the entire Cornell home page resided in my head. Today’s jaunt into the code gave me a window into the minds of the WPG programmers. I liken it to landing in a foreign country with your berlitz dictionary and an 11th grade working vocabulary. Where Will, Jeff, and the gang are eloquently stating things like “I would like the salmon poached with a side of baby peas and the lemon-dill sauce, please.” I am grunting out “Me hungry. Want fish.”
I am pleased to say that it only took my forty five minutes to beat the credits page into submission.
Tomorrow, we wrap up the last of the changes, test the site in our staging area, cross our fingers, and hold our breath. Thursday morning, barring unforeseen catastrophe, we should be live. If you care to rub rabbits’ feet, polish horse shoes, cross appendages, or mutter a prayer or two, the sentiment would not be unwelcome. We have every confidence in the WPG and Sanjeev’s god-like powers of server administration, but who knows when the power grid is going to fail and plunge the east coast into darkness again.
Friday morning, we can all push up our sleeves and get down to discussion about Phase 2. No rest for the wicked, errr…weary.
Two days until launch. Two days until launch. Two days until launch.
