Cornellian Janice Gallagher, a doctoral student in government, is taking part in the Caravan for Peace with Justice and Dignity, a 30-day, 25-city bus tour from Tijuana, Mexico, that will reach Washington, D.C., Sept. 12. Also on board are Mexican peace activist Javier Sicilia, whose son was killed by drug-gang members last year, and other victims of the drug war.

The caravan is calling for an end to the drug war, a halt to the illegal smuggling of weapons across the border to Mexico, the immediate suspension of U.S. assistance to Mexico’s armed forces, an end to the militarization of the border and the criminalization of immigrants, and the adoption of policies that protect the dignity of every human being. Cornell’s Committee on U.S.-Latin American Relations is lending assistance.
