Collision course
Cornell President David Skorton took to The Hill’s Congress Blog July 18 to argue for continued funding of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Despite its tiny budget (1/ 21,000th of the federal budget), the NEH has become a target for politicians on both sides of the aisle eager to cut “frills.”
“Because NEH is an important source of funding for colleges and universities, K-12 education, libraries, museums, historical societies and other community endeavors – and because NEH support makes it easier to secure funding from other sources – reductions in the NEH budget can have an impact far beyond the actual federal dollars lost, an impact measured in lost jobs, lost services, and discontinued programs that make for vibrant local communities,” Skorton writes.
