It’s 8,000 miles from Mann Library to South Africa, but Mann librarians have recently stepped that far off the Ag Quad to offer African professionals the skills-based instruction the library provides people here in Ithaca.

In the last few months, Mann librarians travelled to Centurion, South Africa, to teach week-long workshops on statistics, information literacy, grant writing and citation management at the Information Training and Outreach Centre for Africa.

The workshops seek to “train the trainers” so that Africans can offer instruction in these skills along with such training information resources as TEAAL (The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library), a digital collection of research journals for agriculture and related sciences.
