On the ball

david_einhornThe New York Mets has announced that David Einhorn ’91, who majored in government in the College of Arts and Sciences, has agreed to buy a minority share of the baseball team for $200 million.

Einhorn, president and co-founder of the hedge fund Greenlight Capital Inc. which famously sold Lehman Brothers’ stock short several months before the brokerage house collapsed, would become a “preferred partner,” according to The New York Times.

“Having an opportunity to become part of the Mets franchise is exciting beyond my wildest childhood dreams,” said Einhorn, also a famed poker player and author of “Fooling Some of the People All of the Time: A Long Short (and Now Complete) Story” in a media conference call. “I probably watched, you know, hundreds or thousands of games over my life. And having an opportunity to get involved in this level I think is going to be a fantastic life experience for me.”
