Ain’t no paywall high enough

newspaper_drawingStarting March 28, the New York Times’ new digital subscription plan will restrict online readers to 20 free articles a month, then pay for access to nytimes.com.

But the library offers Cornellians options.

Current Times articles are available through three databases from computers on the campus network, or after logging in with a NetID from off campus:

• LexisNexis Academic
Access World News
Factiva Newsstand (click the Factiva link and select “News Pages” in the top left corner)

These databases contain article text only, no advertising or images.

Another database, ProQuest Historical Newspapers, provides full-page images of the print version of the paper from its beginning in 1851 to four years ago, including all the advertising – the complete content of the printed paper.

The library continues to carry a dozen copies of current print editions of the Times.
