Fighting hunger bucket by bucket

Nutrition experts at Cornell Cooperative Extension have teamed up once again with the Food Bank of Central New York and students from LaFargeville Central School District’s afterschool program to create and distribute 300 “bucket gardens” to those in need at food pantries in Jefferson County. The “garden in a bucket” program, which began four years ago, consists of a 5-gallon plastic bucket drilled with holes and filled with soil and a tomato seedling, as well as instructions on how to garden

The program is intended to provide fresh food and show people how to stretch their food dollars.
