The Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity have had plenty of work to occupy them since they landed on the red planet more than six years ago – but they still manage to keep their fans up to date on their adventures through Twitter (which didn’t even exist when they landed).
And their fans appreciate it. The rovers have been nominated for a Shorty Award, which recognizes the best people and organizations on Twitter. As of Feb. 2, the rovers were in third place in the science category, with 249 votes.
Tweet your vote. Later this month, the nominees will be narrowed to six finalists in each category. Winners will be determined by popular vote and by the members of the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences.
An awards ceremony, complete with 140-character acceptance speeches, will be held in March in New York City.
