Flickring the switch
With the library’s new Flickr stream, some of Cornell’s digital collections are opening up to the world at large, and the first sample to go online is the Andrew Dickson White Architectural Photographs Collection. White, Cornell’s first president, established the collection by donating several thousand images from his personal architectural library.
The photos on Flickr include detailed descriptions, thanks to some dedicated librarians and catalogers, and all the images are already in the public domain and free from copyright restriction.
Flickr users can help add even more to the collection. The photos are geocoded to show up on Flickr’s map, but users can help pinpoint locations and add tags, comments and notes so that more people can find and appreciate the collection.
