Golden Hour in the Fall

It has been a surprisingly warm November in Ithaca so far – my roommate and I have been running our air conditioner for two nights now. We’re seeing the last of Autumn this year and with yesterday’s generous warmth and sunshine, almost everything on campus looked beautiful. I don’t take photos very often, but even I couldn’t resist taking some on my phone around sunset yesterday.

From the Clock Tower

In my two years at Cornell, I had not climbed up the 161 steps of the clock tower even once. It was very embarrassing. Last week, I was walking up Ho Plaza with a friend when the chimes began to play in the evening. I looked up at the clock and someone was up there with a camera pointed at the south end of campus. My friend suggested that we climb up right then.

It was somewhat windy and cold, but the view was beautiful. You can see the lake and fall colors around campus. The clock also had purple and orange colors for Halloween instead of the usual yellow-ochre, so I ended up with a strangely colored photo.

And oh, the chimes are incredibly loud up there! That’s because the 21-bell chime is located up there and you can even see the chimes master play it live. Find out more about the chimes here.
